I read Sean Kirst's column today in the paper about a family who grew up on the North side or Syracuse. Their boys went off to the Second World War....it was about them, but after spending a few days with our boys (and Rachel) I wished fervently that our kids could be here. To grow up - marry - have kids - work - and live out their lives in our small corner of the world. I know I didn't, really. Alex was born in Seattle, grew up quite a bit in Saratoga, and went off to school (with my blessing) to Virginia. That he's in Manhattan shouldn't surprise me - but I wish they were here.
